LIVID neighbours say they want to "sledgehammer" the illegal spa complex Captain Tom's family built.

And they accuse Hannah Ingram-Moore of "playing on her father's name" to throw up the illegal annex at her £1.2 million Bedfordshire mansion.

Hannah, 52, and hubby Colin told planners they wanted an office for the charity set up in their father’s name in the garden of their seven-bed pile.

But they instead built the 50ft by 20ft pool house with changing rooms, toilets and showers.

On Tuesday, planning chiefs ordered the family to demolish the illegal C-shaped building, referred to in documents as 'The Captain Tom Building'.

The family - currently under investigation by the Charity Commission over concerns they profited from Tom's name - have appealed the decision.

The Captain Tom Foundation are no longer receiving donations, a spokesperson added.

Following the demolition order, one elderly neighbour blasted: "It's a horrible monstrosity. It has just blocked our view from the kitchen.

"Give me a sledgehammer and I'll knock the place down myself."

Plans for the former L-shaped building in Marston Moretaine were given the green light in 2021.

The Ingram-Moore's had applied in their own names for planning but used the foundation’s name in the design and access and heritage statement, The Sun revealed on Tuesday.

The statement described the building to be used partly "in connection with The Captain Tom Foundation and its charitable objectives".

A subsequent 2022 retrospective application - sought after something has already been built - to extend the building to form a C-shape containing a spa pool, was refused by the planning authority.

The application had described the extension as "a new building for use by the occupiers", aka Hannah and Colin.

But one neighbour blasted the "audacity" of the family who they claimed carried out construction work on weekends.

The anonymous neighbour explained: "They would sometime have work done on the building on Sundays when we were trying to relax.

"We have tried to speak to them a couple of times but they are quite hard to speak to. Not necessarily rude, but difficult to speak to.

"It's just the sheer audacity of it all."

Meanwhile, Richard, 67, said it's "a shame" that Captain Tom's legacy has ended in this saga.

The neighbour said of life coach Hannah: "She has played a lot on her father's name, hasn't she?

"I think it's the way they went about it which has upset people the most."

Another elderly woman said she had donated money to the Captain Tom Foundation several times.

But she conceded this planning row had made her question her generosity, adding: "Sometimes, you know, things like this, they make me distrust them.

"They make me wonder who they really are and what they do with the money they receive."

Capt Tom lifted spirits during Covid by walking in his garden in the run-up to his 100th   birthday.

He raised almost £39million for the NHS.

The WW2 veteran was knighted, honoured with an RAF flypast and received 225,000 100th birthday cards.

He died of Covid in February 2021.

That August the couple said the space was “urgently required” for presentations.

A spokesperson for Central Bedfordshire Council said: "An enforcement notice requiring the demolition of the now-unauthorised building was issued.

"And this is now subject to an appeal to the Planning Inspectorate."

Trustees from Tom's charity told The Sun: "At no time were The Captain Tom Foundation’s independent trustees aware of planning permissions made by Mr and Mrs Ingram-Moore purporting to be in the foundation’s name.

"Had they been aware of any applications, the independent trustees would not have authorised them."

They added: "The sole focus of The Captain Tom Foundation is to ensure that it cooperates fully with the ongoing Statutory Inquiry by the Charity Commission.

"As a result, The Captain Tom Foundation is not presently actively seeking any funding from donors."
