CELTIC are reportedly interested in signing Watford youngster Jack Grieves.

The 18-year-old is highly-rated at the English Championship club and was given first team minutes last season.

The forward, who is free to move on this summer, was offered a contract by the Hornets but it's suggested that the player is weighing up his future as transfer interest heats up.

Grieves featured in an FA Cup defeat to Reading in January and came off the bench in two Championship fixtures against Blackpool and the win over Stoke on the final day of the season.

He was rewarded for his impressive displays for the development side over the years and he has now caught the eyes of several clubs, including Celtic.

It's being reported by Football League World that the Hoops are battling with Premier League side Brentford for the starlet's signature this transfer window.

Several other unnamed clubs are reportedly keeping tabs on the 18-year-old too but it's the Scottish champions and the Bees who are said to be leading the chase.

Watford will be due compensation if Grieves leaves due to his age but it's understood that the Championship are doing all they can to convince him to stay.

The striker would likely join the B team's set up at Parkhead as the Hoops youngsters get prepared for another campaign in the Lowland League next season.

It could prove to be an attractive option following the appointment of Brendan Rodgers as the Northern Irishman is known to give young players a chance in the first team if they're performing.

Grieves could also see it as a solid stepping stone for the rest of his career after watching the likes of Ben Doak rise from the Hoops youth teams to the Liverpool senior squad in just 18 months.

Brentford have been hailed for their work with young players though and he may see the Bees as the better option to improve himself as a player.
