Georgian media reports protests in at least eight cities and towns after Saturday’s demonstrations leave 44 in hospital

The Republic of Georgia is set to hold its parliamentary elections on Oct. 26. The ruling party, Georgian Dream, comes into the contest with historically low approval ratings, yet it still stands a good chance of defeating the fragmented opposition.

A disputed law passed by the Georgian parliament in June, which requires organizations receiving more than 20% of their funds from abroad to register as “foreign agents,” is starting to bite as tens of thousands of NGOs refused to register voluntarily and will now face fines, be forcefully added to the list, and be closely monitored.
