What does Salpique mean?

In the context of Shakira's song featured in BZRP Music Sessions Vol 53 with Bizarrap, the Spanish term 'salpique' has a double meaning that was caught by her listeners.

Completely sung in the above-mentioned language, the song consists of the lyrics: "Entendí que no es culpa mía quе te critiquen, Yo solo hago música, perdón que te sal-pique."

In English, this translates to: "I understood that it’s not my fault that they criticize you... I only make music, sorry that it splashed you."

Salpique means to splash, the word is also a play on Gerard Piqué's last name.

As two separate terms, the words 'Sal Pique' translates to "Get out, Piqué."

Hence, the double meaning and significance of the term salpique in Shakira's song.

The Whenever, Wherever singer also references the FC Barcelona player's relationship with Clara Chia Marti.

Throughout BZRP Music Sessions Vol 53, she sings the lyrics: "Tiene nombre de persona buena, Claramente no es como suena," which means, "She has the name of a good person; it’s clearly not what it sounds like."

Clara's name also happens to translate the word clearly, which is another play on words with a double meaning.

Shakira carries on with the disses towards Piqué and his relationship with Clara.

Later in the track, she shades the 23-year-old student and sings "I’m worth two 22-year-olds, you traded a Ferrari for a Twingo....you traded a Rolex for a Casio."

After the song's release on January 11, 2023, it accumulated over 14million views and reached the top five of Spotify's Global charts.

"I want to embrace the millions of women who rise up against those who make us feel insignificant.

"Women who defend what they feel and think and raise their hand when they don’t agree - They are my inspiration."

When did Shakira and Piqué split?

On June 4, 2022, Shakira announced she and Piqué decided to part ways.

Her publicist revealed via social media: "We regret to confirm that we are parting ways.

"For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect their privacy. Thank you for your understanding."

Following their split, the FC Barcelona defender reportedly started dating then-22-year-old student Clara Chia.

By August of the same year, the two went public with their relationship.

At the time, insiders disclosed to The Sun: "Gerard and Clara have been seeing each other for months.

"She is a student who also works for him in his office, organising events.

"They have been keeping quiet about their relationship but those around them all know what is happening.

"People have been helping him keep the romance hush-hush and have wiped Clara’s social media accounts so people can’t find photos of her.

"That alone makes his mates think he is actually quite serious about being with her."
