Police are trying to identify a group of British tourists and street sellers said to have been involved in this pitched battle in the Ibizan party resort of San Antonio.
Footage of the orgy of violence appeared to show the holidaymakers coming off worst as they suffered a barrage of kicks and punches. Several men laid into a bare-chested rival described locally as a British tourist, smashing him around the head with their fists and kicking him back onto the ground as he tried to get up.
A friend sprinted across to intervene and tried to land a punch himself on one of the aggressors before running away and losing his balance on the sand. Moments earlier, a group of young men and women believed to be from the UK were filmed fleeing the area and an unidentified man who appeared to be laying unconscious on the beach near to where the main violence was taking place.
It was not immediately clear if he was one of the group described as the street sellers or a tourist. Town hall officials in San Antonio confirmed the pitched battle had occurred around 6.30am on Sunday by the resort’s main beach called S’Arenal.
The footage of the brawl showed bottles were thrown at the height of the violence which smashed on the ground near to where the physical assaults were occurring. Although there were reports of casualties, those caught up in the melee were said to have fled before police reached the scene.

San Antonio is packed with Brits in the peak summer season. Its West End area, one of the best-known party areas in the resort, is a British stronghold.
Last month it emerged police in the resort were hunting a British woman over a horror bottle attack on a hotel boss. The unnamed holidaymaker allegedly used the bottle to slash her victim’s throat after refusing to pay a drinks bill.
The deputy director of the unnamed hotel in San Antonio is said to have stepped in after a group the woman was with assaulted a waitress when she tried to charge them.
The attacker fled the scene after leaving the female hotel chief with serious injuries. She is still believed to be on the run.
