Trying to get the perfect ponytail can sometimes feel like a science you'll just never master. Whilst celebs like Molly Mae are often seen rocking super flattering styles, when you try and do it, it just doesn't achieve the same vibe.

Turns out though, there is a way to make your ponytail look a whole lot better, and it's all to do with the direction you brush your hair in.

Hair expert Megan Bowen took to her TikTok account @meganbowen_ to promise people that they are 'not ugly', they're 'just doing their ponytail wrong'. She captioned the video: "Down-brushing vs Up-Brushing!! I swear it will enhance your gorgeous face!!!"

Megan explained that if you brush your hair downwards, it can also make your face look dragged down too - instead, she encouraged her followers to brush their hair upwards for the perfect style that will 'change the game'.

She said: "Down brushing is when you comb your hair down into a ponytail, and up brushing is when you comb it up."

She explained brushing down brings your 'face down with it', but if you brush upwards from the 'nape of the neck', 'constantly thinking up, up, up' and the ponytail will pull your face upwards, meaning your 'eyebrows, cheekbones, everything is lifted'.

Megan finished the video by saying: "It enhances your face more than dragging it down."

"I promise this is going to change the ponytail game."

In the comments, people were praising how much better the upwards ponytail looked.

One woman wrote: "Thankful that growing up dancing conditioned me to do up brushing for my ponies. I look absolutely dreadful when I down brush lmao."

"You're a genius", another praised.

Some didn't see the appeal though, with one commenting: "Either way I still be looking like an egg."

Will you be trying this technique? Let us know in the comments.
