Rio Ferdinand lists four reasons why Rasmus Hojlund will thrive at Man Utd

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has provided multiple reasons as to why he thinks Rasmus Hojlund will be a successful signing for the Red Devils.

The 20-year-old Danish striker is set to be unveiled as a new United player on Saturday afternoon before the pre-season friendly clash against Lens at Old Trafford. Erik ten Hag signed off on a deal that will see the Premier League giants hand over £72million to Atalanta to bring Hojlund to the club, with the aim of being United's main man in the years to come.

Some have questioned whether United have overpaid for a striker who hardly lit up Serie A in terms of his goalscoring, as Hojlund only netted nine league goals across 32 appearances last season. However, Ferdinand is very confident the youngster has what it takes.

"He [Hojlund] has all the qualities you expect from a player: he's mobile, fast, aggressive and able to finish plays," the former Red Devil explained. "Plus, he supports Manchester United. He's a young player and you have to give it time."

Ferdinand went on to add: "The first thing is that he has enormous potential. Anyone who has seen him play will see that he has the qualities you are looking for. He is made for the Premier League. The price is not within its control."

The ex-United ace even compared Hojlund to Liverpool's Darwin Nunez, who arrived at Anfield this time last year under similar circumstances.

"I look at it a bit like Darwin Nunez at Liverpool. Last season was his adjusting season, he's a young striker coming to the league, everything about him fits the Premier League perfectly but it didn't go as well as he would of liked.

"But I think this season we'll see a different player for Liverpool. I wouldn't be surprised if that happens with Hojlund although I'd like him to have a better season than that obviously. He may well do but it will take time to adjust."

There is no denying Hojlund arrives at Old Trafford with an immense amount of pressue on his shoulders, as Ten Hag looks to ease the goal-scoring burden on Marcus Rashford next season.

United ended the campaign with one piece of silverware in the bag with a Carabao Cup triumph, but the onus is on Hojlund to help restore the Red Devils to their former glories.

Having passed his medical, Hojlund's lucrative United contract is expected to see the Denmark international tied to the club until 2028, with the option to extend for another year if both parties see fit to do so.
