On joining Botafogo, Costa said: "I'm very happy to have been chosen to be part of the family. Thanks and I see you soon."

Costa was born in the country and played for their national team twice before switching allegiances to Spain.

The striker is best remembered by his days as a Premier League bad boy.

Costa was sent off last term for headbutting Brentford's Ben Mee and got a three-match ban back in 2015 for two stamp incidents on Liverpool players.

He won the Prem twice with Chelsea in 2015 and 2017, finding the back of the net 59 times across three seasons in all competitions.
