A pub has issued a scathing response to a one star food review - despite the kitchen not even being open at the time.

The reviewer has compiled a catalogue of complaints about their apparent visit to The Marquis of Granby, in Penkhull, on July 22. The complaints included moans about the food taking too long to arrive, hair in the meals and a refusal to refund from staff.

However, the pub has since revealed its kitchen has actually been closed since July 19 due to there being a a lack of a chef. They responded in the hope the reviewer had gotten confused with another establishment, reports StokeonTrentLive.

In response, the venue said: "You have got the wrong Marquis of Granby. We are not currently serving food so we are confused as to why we are receiving this review. We would appreciate this being taken down as this isn’t our pub that you have eaten at and this could have a damaging effect on our business."

Now The Marquis of Granby has highlighted the issue on its Facebook page. In a social media response to the review, the venue said: "Our kitchen has been closed since 19 July due to us lacking a chef. We have tried reporting this review to Google with no joy. But why do people feel the need to try to ruin someone's business by giving a highly-detailed lie? It’s uncalled for.

"To target our staff is very unfair as we have a very friendly and dedicated team working for us who have done so for a long time and myself and Calum are extremely proud of them. Team Marquis all the way - one person's bitterness won’t dull our shine.

"Our food, on the other hand, will start up again when we find a suitable chef to join our great team in our great pub."
