Prince William has had no contact with Harry for a long time and a reconciliation isn't on the cards any time soon, according to a royal source.
The brothers' bond has been strained for some years, and the two have reportedly barely spoken since the Duke of Sussex stepped down as a working royal and left the UK with wife Meghan Markle in 2020.
Harry's scandalous memoir Spare likely made matters even worse, as he revealed more details of their fractious relationship and even alleged William had physically assaulted him during an argument.
In recent days rumours have circulated that Harry may have made contact with William, leaving the older royal "stunned". But a new report has poured cold water on hopes of a reunion, claiming communication between the two is still "non-existent".
"You can read the room on that as to where things are [between them]," a source told the Daily Mail, indicating the subject is very much off-limits for William. "It's sad, but it is what is. This is a family as well as an institution."
Meghan Markle 'to unleash her own memoirs' as Prince Harry's drops next weekClaims of a peace offering were made earlier this month by an insider, who told In Touch: "Harry admitted he'd phoned William to call a truce and told his brother he and Meghan would be open to going back to London, where they would serve King Charles."
They also claimed that Charles let Harry know he would "think about his offer". According to the publication, Harry is considering a return to the UK after becoming "panicked" about money and his and Meghan's future in America.
"Harry is starting to wonder if they made the right decision leaving England. He’s even suggested to Meghan that they return to London and the royal family," the source claimed.
If true, royal biographer Tom Bower said the Waleses are unlikely to accept Harry’s offer of a truce - and that Meghan would be "horrified" he'd brought it up.
“I think Harry’s offer will ultimately be rejected. I doubt William and Kate can forgive Harry,” he told OK!.
“I don’t think he can come back — he’s caused so much damage to the family and the concern now is that if he does return, he could well damage it even further. I think Meghan would’ve been horrified by Harry’s suggestion.
"She’s not close to William and Kate, and in my opinion, London was just a stepping stone for her. I would imagine the last thing she’d want to do is return to England to live in a small, poky flat in Kensington Palace.”
