And the striker attended Saturday's Premier League clash with Bournemouth as he watched from the stands.

However, Brentford fans were left baffled as the Frenchman was sat next to former Southampton manager Jones, who carried a "book full of notes" during the 2-2 draw with the Cherries.

One fan tweeted: "Wtf was Nathan Jones doing with Maupay at Brentford?"

And that one wondered: "Maupay I get since he was there before and did well, lucky to get the move though. Nathan jones is just bizarre though!"

Jones has been a free agent ever since his dismissal from Southampton in February.

The 50-year-old coach was sacked by the Saints after just 14 games with the club at the bottom of the Premier League.

During his short tenure, the ex-Luton boss caught a lot of attention with his answers in press conferences as he suggested he had "compromised on principles" while at St Mary's.

Jones also claimed he was one of the best managers in Europe, despite losing a whopping nine matches during his short tenure.
