LAFC co-owner Will Ferrell has had requests from people for tickets to see his team face Lionel Messi going back before he even signed for Inter Miami.

The comedy actor witnessed the star power of the World Cup winner first hand as he attended the franchise's clash versus the Herons. A-List celebrities, sporting icons and royalty packed out the stands at BMO Stadium to catch a glimpse of the seven-time Ballon d'Or victor in action.

There is no doubt a seat at this crucial MLS clash was the hottest ticket in town in Los Angeles, with Messi mania having seemingly engulfed Hollywood. The Elf and Anchorman megastar Ferrell knew only too well that demand for tickets for this clash had reached unprecedented levels after fending off requests for months.

The funnyman, who is among the minority investors at the MLS Cup holders, told Apple TV he has never witnessed a clamour of this kind before. He admitted: "There's really nothing quite like it. I've had people reaching out to me back in May.

"This is so cool for MLS, this is so cool LAFC and the entire league, it's great! It's a chance for the guys to really step up in this playoff atmosphere and kind of show he [Lionel Messi] may be one of the best players in the world but are we one of the best teams."

Of course, Messi's arrival at Vice City was only confirmed in July after months of speculation surrounding his future as he prepared to leave PSG. The Emmy Award-winning actor's claims just go to show how eager potential punters have been to witness the planet's most famous sporting star take to the field.

The special nature of the meeting with an all-time football great has not been lost on Ferrell, who was beaming with pride prior to kick-off. He added: "This is one of the coolest things I've been a part of [LAFC ownership]. I've been a part of a lot of special things. But this is special alone because as a a family we've gotten to share what this team has meant to MLS, what it has meant to the community here in LA and it's a really point of pride."

The 56-year-old seemingly hit the nail on the head as household names mingled in with supporters in unprecedented numbers on the terraces at LAFC's home round. Among those present from the world of entertainment was Selena Gomez, Liam Gallagher, Owen Wilson and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Recognisable faces from several sporting disciplines also turned out in force to welcome Messi to LA, with LeBron James a standout name. To cap things off, Ferrell was even joined by Prince Harry and the pair were seen engaging in conversation at the match.
