Strictly Come Dancing's Amanda Abbington has fallen ill just weeks before the star-studded show's launch, telling fans she has 'vicious' food poisoning. Taking to her Instagram Story on Thursday, the Sherlock star asked followers for health advice.

"Food poisoning. Particularly vicious one," she wrote over a black background, adding: "Any tips on how to feel back to normal [would be] greatly appreciated." She signed the urgent message off with two sick face emojis and praying hands.

The news has thrown the BBC show into chaos as its glitzy first instalment is days away and Amanda's illness isn't the first spanner in the works for Strictly bosses. Her co-star Adam Thomas recently announced he had been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis.

Adam previously revealed he's been in 'a lot of pain' in the run-up to his appearance on the popular programme. The long-term condition causes pain, swelling and stiffness in the joints, per the NHS. Announcing the news, the Waterloo Road star wrote: "The reason I signed up to Strictly is because I just want to be able to move again, get fit and do it, all with a smile on my face!

"It really couldn’t have come at a better time I’m a firm believer of everything happening for a reason, and I know the journey I’ve been on was meant to happen, to never take small things in life for granted!

"Like going for a run, playing with my kids and just being able to walk with no pain! I know it’s going to be tough and I’ve definitely got my work cut out but am up for the challenge and can not wait to get on that dance floor!!"

Amanda's health battle comes after she landed in hot water with fans after comments she made about a child in a drag performance. Slamming 'transphobic' claims, she wrote: "Apparently I'm trending on Twitter. I'm not on Twitter anymore. I left voluntarily because I don't like it over there anymore.

"I’m trending because people are going to boycott Strictly and I think it's because of a tweet I made back in March regarding a drag show. Now, I need to make this very clear. I love drag. I think it's an amazing form of entertainment and I f***ing love drag queens. I think they're hilarious and brilliant, and it's an art form. And I think there's absolutely a place for it in the entertainment industry."

Amanda added: "I’ve said stupid things, of course I have, and I instantly regretted them. Everybody is learning. We need to take a breath and take a beat. So I'm sorry if you feel like you need to boycott Strictly for a tweet I made about a drag show but I don't think 12-year-olds should be doing overly-sexualised drag acts. That's my personal opinion and I'm not pushing it on anyone else. It upsets me when I see kids feeling like they have to do that.

"But I didn't associate it with the trans community nor would I. I'm an ally of the LGBT community and I'm an ally of women's rights and I'm an ally of kids being kids, and I'm an ally of live and let live." Amanda had been banned from Twitter three times in the past – which she also addressed.
