It was previously revealed that Tom would be leaving the ITV show and his role as Will Davenport after filming series nine.

He will be replaced by the new Vicar Alphy Kotteram, who will be played by former Hollyoaks actor Rishi Nair.

Tom had wished the actor the best of luck on his Instagram story, writing: "Wishing @rishinair all the best in joining the Grantchester family. You're going to love him."

Rishi replied back to him on his own Instagram story. He replied: "Thank you so much, Tom! Huge boots to fill."

It will be a long while until fans of the drama get to see the vicar's final scenes.

ITV has made changes to its initial schedule in a move that will disappoint viewers.

It means Grantchester won't be back on screens this year as planned.

Fans will have to wait until 2024 to see the eight series of the detective drama.
