During the opening episode, fans were in tears as they listened to Roger open up on his wife's death.

The postman and his late wife Joanne had been in a relationship for 37 years, sharing three kids.

With his former spouse having passed away less than two years ago, My Mum Your Dad viewers were worried he just wasn't ready for the matchmaking experience.

One took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to muse: "Poor Roger and family. His daughter said this is a way of giving him permission to meet someone It’s not permission he needs it’s time he is not ready."

Another bluntly put: There is NO WAY this man is ready for this his wife has only been dead a year."

One added: "Great show tonight! I'm hooked! But seriously…Roger is so not ready for love!"

Another added: "Roger captured the whole nation xoxo."

Single dad Roger was seen going on a 'date' with single mum Caroline at the £8million retreat and he ended up recalling the moment his wife Jo passed away.

Another fan added of their partnership: "As soon as I saw them I really liked them and thought they should match! But, a year of losing a wife of 37 years is too soon, for Roger.

"He’s not ready and I feel bad for Caroline because she was attracted to him.

They would’ve been a good match I like Caroline."

During the emotional scenes, Roger told Caroline: "[My wife] had breast cancer about three or four years ago and she got over that and we thought, 'Brilliant'.

"And then we were on holiday in Italy and I just looked behind her ear and it was irritating her. Just a little spot behind her ear.

"I said, 'You need to get that checked, Jo, when we get back'. And she did and she got seen to really quick.

"And it was melanoma. She didn't know at that time that the cancer had gone to her brain."

Recalling the moment his wife passed away, he continued: "She said, 'I'm very tired'. I said, 'Come on, I'll put you to bed or do you want to go on the settee?'

"She said, 'Put me on the settee'. And then I came in about half an hour later and obviously I should have just phoned for an ambulance straight away.

"She basically never woke up again."

While Roger's tragic love story brought a tear to Caroline's eye, viewers at home were also left crying.

Prior to the show, Roger said his daughter Jess, 28, thinks he has a lot of love to give.

The personality admitted: "She is so thoughtful and it was just a lovely thing for her to say, 'Dad, look, we understand that you're struggling and it's been hard and we know that you've got a lot of love to give and we're OK if you were to see someone else.'"

At the time, he told ITV: "I'm going on the show to get some confidence. I must have subconsciously wanted to meet someone by saying yes to the show."

He describes himself as a "fun, loving, [and] conscientious," person who is "struggling to get old".

Meanwhile, eight singletons aged between 44 and 58 have entered the retreat after being nominated for My Mum Your Dad by their grown up kids.

The mums and dads have been revealed as Roger and Caroline, along with Natalie, Monique, Paul, Sharon, Clayton, and Elliot.

In the opening episode, host Davina was seen telling the 'kids' they could watch what their parents will be up to on hidden cameras.
