Getting stains on toilet seats can be one of the worst cleaning conundrums to deal with - they're unsightly, stubborn, and if left for a long period of time, turn into an absolute nightmare. Often, limescale can build up on the toilet and result in a nasty yellow stain which is not what you want to see when you go to the loo.

Banishing these pesky stains can be a tricky job but there is one item that can do the trick every time, but it is not what you might think. A spokesperson for the company WD-40 has shared that their Multi-Use product can be used for anything, not just vehicle maintenance. It's the last thing you'd reach for when tackling your bathroom, but it turns out you should think again.

They have shared their tips on how to use this to clean toilet seats and the results might shock you.

The spokesperson told The Express: "WD-40 can be readily used for removing stains from your toilet seat. Hard water stains are fairly similar to rust stains and the product works extremely well when it comes to dealing with rust."

They added that the product starts off as a liquid but when dealing with the stain it turns into a gaseous form which loosens the particles in the stain to get rid of it.

This means that you can easily wipe it off and the stain will come with it.

But that is not all this product can do as it can also prevent your toilet seat from getting heavily stained in the future.

They said: "Moreover, WD-40 creates a seal around the affected areas to stop the stains from sticking to the pores of the surface."

"With the highly potent liquid, you can get yourself a sparkling clean toilet within a few minutes."

To get going with this product, simply spray some onto your toilet seat - but use sparingly as it's pretty potent - before leaving it for 10 minutes.

Once that time is up you can take a brush and scrub away the liquid and the stains.

The spokesperson said: "You will notice how easily the stains come off and how the toilet seat restores its original look. Although the magic works during the first scrub itself, you can repeat the process if the stains are not completely removed in one go"
