There is more wet weather on the way across huge swathes of the country with temperatures staying in the mid to high teens just days after a blistering heatwave.
More rain will hit in a number of places across the county according to forecasters. The Met Office said: "Overcast to start with drizzly rain occasionally pushing into southern counties. Turning brighter further north until the evening when the rain edges northwards to cover the region. Maximum temperature 20 degrees C."
It comes after sweltering temperatures gripped the nation as the mercury peaked at 32.7C at Heathrow Airport, west London, on Saturday, the hottest day of the year.
Sunshine will be hard to come by this week - and largely for the rest of the month, forecasters said earlier. It will, though, make a return with predictions that on or around Monday, October 2, Brits will see temperatures again push above average for the time of year.
Speaking of the weather for early October Ian Simpson, forecaster for independent team Netweather, said: "It looks probable that we will see one or two relatively settled interludes early on in the period with ridges of high pressure moving in, most likely from the south.

"Temperatures are likely to be above normal early in the period, but trending average to fairly cool late in the period. It will probably be drier than average for most, particularly in the west and north-west."
He added it'll likely be "sunnier than average", particularly in the west of England, southwest of England and across Wales. High pressure will shift to the north of England by the end of this period in what has been described as an "anomaly," implying warmer air for this time of the year typically.
On Thursday the Met Office has predicted a windy start to the day before 'showers and sunny spells'. The forecaster added: "Rain for much of the day for central areas. Warmer day in the south with a risk of showers."

Further spells of rain, locally heavy across northern areas. Much of England and Wales largely fine and dry, after some early morning mist. Becoming warm in the south.
