Elon Musk has reflected on his short-lived romance with Amber Heard as "brutal" in his eponymous new biography from Walter Isaacson.
The 62-year-old Tesla billionaire dated the actress seven years ago, shortly after she filed for divorce from Johnny Depp, with their on/off relationship lasting eighteen months. And while the pair have also spoken highly of each other and have appeared to remain amicable since a section from the book by Walter painted a slightly different picture of their time together.
But how did their love story come about? Well, the pair first met each other on the set of 2013's Machete Kills, where Amber starred as beauty pageant contestant Blanca Vasquez, and Elon had a cameo as himself. Their romance didn't kick off until four years later when Amber's marriage to Johnny came to a tumultuous end, and later led to the estranged former couple's 2022 highly publicised defamation lawsuit.
According to the new biography, Elon and Amber's dating life revolved around their work, with Amber flying to the Tesla factory in California to surprise him on his birthday while the tech entrepreneur paid her a visit in Australia on the set of Aquaman.
The pair also shared a passion for nerdy topics such as video games, with the actress dressing up as the video game character Mercy from Overwatch in a costume for Elon that took two months to make. Elon recently publicly shared that image of Amber cosplaying, which has reportedly left her "fuming" as she didn't give him permission to share the intimate snaps, according to Page Six.

Kimbal also noted that Elon had a tendency to fall for people who were "beautiful, no question, but they have a very dark side."
Elon's response to all the grilling over Amber was: "Because I'm just a fool for love. I am often a fool, but especially for love." He went on to tell the biographer that his relationship with Amber was "18 months of unrelenting insanity" as well as "mind-bogglingly painful."
However, over the years, since they split in 2017, the pair have spoken fondly about each. In an Instagram post from August 2017, Elon wrote: "Although Amber and I did break up, we are still friends, remain close and love one another. Long distance relationships when both partners have intense work obligations are always difficult, but who knows what the future holds."
He even addressed her trial with Johnny, in which she was later found liable for defaming the Hollywood star, writing on Twitter: "I hope they both move on. At their best, they are each incredible."
