Coltrane, whose real name was Anthony Robert McMillan, was born in Rutherglen, Lanarkshire and was the son of teacher and pianist Jean Ross and GP Ian Baxter McMillan.
He adopted the surname Coltrane in the 1970s in tribute to the jazz saxophonist John Coltrane.
The actor died at the Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert, Stirlingshire.
His death certificate revealed he had died from a string of conditions including multiple organ failure.
On his death, Potter author JK Rowling called Robbie “an incredible talent, a complete one-off”.
