When did Michael Gambon die?
It was announced by Michael's family that he passed away from pneumonia in hospital on Thursday, September 28, 2023.
He was 82 years old.
The statement released said: "We are devastated to announce the loss of Sir Michael Gambon.
"Beloved husband and father, Michael died peacefully in hospital with his wife Anne and son Fergus at his bedside, following a bout of pneumonia. Michael was 82.
"We ask that you respect our privacy at this painful time and thank you for your messages of support and love."
Michael was best known for his various acting roles including playing Professor Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter film franchise.
He joined the cast in the third film after the previous actor, Richard Harris, passed away in 2002.
Michael continued being in the franchise before it came to an end in 2011 with The Deathly Hallows Part 2.
Other movie roles include playing Franklin Bean in Fantastic Mr Fox, William McCordle in Gosford Park, and Uncle Pastuzo in the Paddington movies.
In 2019, he starred as Moses in the movie Cordelia and Bernard Delfont in the Judy Garland biopic Judy.
His career on the small screen saw him star as Philip Marlowe in The Singing Detective, as well as the title character in Maigret.
He also appeared in one episode of Doctor Who, as well as starring in Luck, Fearless, and the 2017 mini series of Little Women.
