Who is Simone Biles' husband, Jonathan Owens?

During the summer of 2020, Biles began dating NFL quarterback Jonathan Owens.

On May 12, 2023, Owens signed with the Green Bay Packers.

However, less than one year later, on Wednesday, March 13, 2023, Owens signed a two-year contract with the Chicago Bears.

"Green Bay will always hold a special place in our hearts!" she added.

"CHICAGO HERE HE COMES," Biles wrote in another tweet.

"I’m so excited about not having a connecting flight to go & see my husband hahahahaaha," she tweeted.

"also I just love the city of Chicago," she added.

Jonathan Owens also tweeted his thoughts about the move.

"Appreciate it @packers for the opportunity," he tweeted, alongside a prayer hands emoji.

"And Packer nation for welcoming me and my wife with open arms, will never forget my time in GB," he added, next to a crossed fingers emoji.

The football star went undrafted following the 2018 NFL Draft and signed with the Arizona Cardinals as a free agent.

He was waived by the team in 2019 and signed with the Texans practice squad that same year.

In January 2020, he signed a reserve/future contract with the Texans and finally signed with the active roster in December.

When did Simone and Jonathan get married?

Simone and Jonathan tied the knot on May 6, 2023.

Although they initially exchanged vows in a civil ceremony in the US the month prior, the couple celebrated in Cabo, Mexico.

On April 22, 2023, Simone Biles posted an image of her and her husband on Instagram announcing their wedding with the caption: "I do ???? officially owens ????@jowens."

What has Jonathan said about Simone?

Before the big announcement, Biles shared how supportive he had been as she prepared for the summer 2021 Olympics in Tokyo.

"He's an athlete too, so we really understand each other, and I think that's why our relationship has been seamless," Simone said on the Today Show in January 2021.

"And he also has a bulldog, so I feel like, besides him being a cherry on top, that was really amazing. And our dogs get along well."

"I just love him. We have a great time together. Our personalities match right up. We have the same sense of humor. And he's just great."

The pair met on a dating app during the Covid-19 pandemic, where they could lay low.

On The Pivot Podcast, Jonathan said the gymnast "piqued my curiosity."

The Olympic gold medalist made the first move.

Jonathan said that after a workout, he saw he had a direct message from Biles.

Jonathan admitted that he wasn't sure who Simone was at that time, even though she was already an Olympic champion.

"I didn’t know who she was at the time, but the first thing that I saw was that she just had a bunch of followers," he said.

"So in my mind, I’m like, ‘OK, she got to be good,'" Owens admitted.

"When she won the Olympics, I was in college, and we didn’t have NBC, we didn’t have Olympics channels, and we’re in camp," he said.

"So I’m not paying attention to – I never would have had a moment to where I would have watched."

When asked if he was the "catch" in the relationship, he said, “I always say that the men are the catch," a comment that raised eyebrows and even prompted fans to ask Biles to divorce him.

Biles went on to defend Jonathan's comments in an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast in April 2024.

“I thought everything was ok, and then I go on Twitter and everybody’s like, ‘Divorce this man. He’s mean!'” she told host Alex Cooper. “I’m like, ‘He’s the sweetest. He praises the ground that I walk on.’ Truly, I’ve never met a man like him."

Regarding the "catch" comment, she said that many likely misinterpreted her husband. “He never said I wasn’t a catch. He said he was a catch. Because he is!”

“I thought it was hilarious what all these people were saying, ‘Divorce him, divorce him’ … I thought it was hilarious at first and then it hurt my feelings,” she recalled.

“One night I broke down and I’m like, ‘Why are you guys talking about my husband like this? You don’t know him. You don’t know who he is and if anybody’s met him, you know he’s the sweetest guy, will do anything for anybody.’ That really hurt that they were talking about my husband like that,” the Olympian added.

“For me, it’s like, talk about me all you want, but don’t come for my family, never.”
