The number of reported outages has soared above 700, according to Downdetector.

Many account-holders rely on their app to get Clubcard prices in store, rather than carrying a physical card.

This means that some shoppers could be left paying more at the checkout.

Is the Tesco website and app down?

The Tesco Clubcard app experienced issues on Tuesday, March 28.

It was the second time in just over two weeks that Tesco's app went down.

Hundreds of shoppers were left unable to access their accounts and amend orders.

It came just days after customers were left furious after the supermarket cancelled orders due to a technical glitch.

Some customers reported on Twitter having their orders cancelled last minute.

The best way to see if there are issues with the Tesco website or app is to check directly.

Currently, customers are seeing a "bad gateway" error message when they try to access the supermarket's website.

Tesco responded to one disgruntled customer on Twitter: "Hello there, unfortunately, we are aware of there being issues with the website at the moment, but please be assured that the IT team are working as fast as they can to resolve this.

"In the meantime, however, I am sorry for the inconvenience caused here."

In another tweet, it suggested that customers try to access the website using a difference device or browser.

You can check if Tesco is down for everyone or experiencing wider issues on Downdetector.

The website lets users report issues and you can see if the issue is widespread in terms of location.

Can you claim compensation for outages?

There's no fixed compensation scheme for supermarket websites being down like you might find with other essential services, like telecoms.

But if you've been left out of pocket by being unable to access your account or next delivery details it's worth contacting Tesco.

You should gather evidence, for example a delivery receipt, and contact Tesco's customer service.

For online grocery order issues you can call 0800 323 4040 which is free to call from landlines and mobiles.
