Wayne Rooney's gobsmacked reaction to Coleen's infamous Wagatha Christie post

Wayne Rooney has spoken about the infamous social media post his wife Coleen published while accusing WAG rival Rebekah Vardy of leaking stories about them to the press.

The 37-year-old football star has been married to Coleen since 2008 and together they share four sons; 13-year-old Kai, ten-year-old Klay, seven-year-old Kit and Cass, five. Back in 2019, 37-year-old Coleen grew suspicious that someone was drip feeding stories about her family to the press and in an effort to secure her suspicions, she started planting false stories that she shared with only one person and was surprised when the fake news started showing up in print.

Coleen sparked a collective national gasp when she took to Twitter to share her theory that 41-year-old Rebekah was the culprit behind the leaks. While Rebekah furiously denied the accusation, a bitter legal case was sparked as the WAGs went to war over the social media post.

In 2022, the case came to a close with a judge siding with Coleen and with Rebekah being ordered to pay for legal costs. The drama of the case is being re-examined in a three part documentary for Disney+ titled Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story. And amid the footage, viewers will see how Wayne first reacted to the drama.

A promotional clip from the show - which is set to stream this month - has been released and showed Coleen detailing how she set a trap to find who was spying on her online. The cameras cut to Wayne who can be seen asking: “What has she done here?” hinting he was as stunned by the accusations as everyone else.

Coleen has been celebrated in the wake of the libel case - with not just the Disney+ show focusing on the drama. A stage production and a Chanel 4 dramatisation, titled Vardy v Rooney: A Courtroom Drama, have already been produced while the dust of the case has barely settled.

And Coleen herself was granted a spotlight with a glamorous photoshoot and interview in the September edition of the British version of Vogue magazine. During her interview, the Scouse housewife seized the opportunity to discuss her explosive case against Rebekah.

And as part of her interview, she explained why she kept her sting operation a secret from everyone. She told the glossy magazine: “If I want to do sunnin’ – and I know I’ll get talked out of doing sunnin’ – I’ll just go ahead and do it... I didn’t want no one telling me not to do it.”

The also told the magazine: “You see social media people calling people out in such nasty ways and I was thinking I wasn’t that nasty. I’ve never been in a legal case before so for me it was scary [...] What a horrible experience.”

The three-part documentary Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story will be available to stream via Disney+ from Wednesday 18 October 2023.
