You can also use rice cereal for some dishes.

Head to realfood.tesco.com for chef Marcello Tully’s Rice Krispie fish fingers recipe.

BRAN NEW MEAL: Kellogg’s All Bran is packed with fibre and you can add that goodness to other meals.

Check out the recipe section of kelloggs.co.uk to find dishes like beef burgers, chilli con carne and tomato and celery soup – which include All Bran in their ingredients.

SNACK ATTACK: Cornflakes and rice cereal are a favourite treat for kids when they are covered in chocolate and stuck together in cupcake cases.

But there are plenty of other ways to use up cereal in bakes and cakes, from the easy blueberry Weetabix muffins at elizabethskitchendiary.co.uk to the breakfast bars, made with multigrain hoops, at bbcgoodfood.com.

Even when you’re making flapjacks, you can substitute some of the oats with cereal scraps.

WORTH THE WHEAT: The crumbly bits from Shredded Wheat and Shreddies can be used up in all sorts of ways.

Head to the Nestle cereals website to try some great recipes that use these breakfast staples.
