Both are still on sale for full price and haven't even been reduced to encourage a quick sale.

Last week furious shoppers slammed supermarkets after discovering their Turkeys were rotten when removing from the packaging to roast for Christmas Day.

According to the Food Standards Agency website: "You should never eat food after the use-by date, even if it looks and smells ok, as it could make you very ill.

"You can cook and eat food until midnight on the use-by date shown on a product, but not after.

"You will see use-by dates on food that goes off quickly, such as meat products or ready-to-eat salads."

An Asda spokesperson said: "We have strict processes in place to ensure that all of our products are regularly checked for date coding.

"Whilst we haven’t received any other complaints about out-of-date turkeys at our Chesser store, we are looking into what could have happened on this occasion.”

Recently we told how an urgent warning was issued to Scots shoppers after several foods and household products have been recalled.

Customers have been urged to the check best before dates and batch numbers of a host of seasonal products.

Shops including Asda, Co-op, Lidl, Morrisons, Iceland and Ikea have all been effected.

It is understood that concerns were raised about items such as mince pies, meat, fish, cheese, rice and baby food.

It is believed that the products could have impacted by a range of issues including possibly containing metal shavings, plastic or Listeria, according to Food Standards Scotland (FFS).

Anyone who has purchased any affected items has been urged to return them to the store it was bought from to receive a full refund.
