THIS is the shocking moment a young girl's grandparents leaped from a third-floor window after she allegedly set the flat on fire in revenge for having her phone confiscated.

The bizarre footage shows the couple throwing themselves out the window of their blazing apartment located in Ipanema, Brazil.

The clip first shows the 53-year-old woman climbing out of a third-floor window to escape the fire started by her granddaughter, 11, after her phone was taken.

She can then be seen tumbling from the window frame as she lands on a spread of mattresses laid down by her neighbours and military police officers on October 14.

Her 70-year-old husband can then be seen doing the same just seconds later.

Brazil's Military Police revealed that the child was staying with her grandparents at the time of the shocking incident.

But the grandmother had reportedly banned the girl from using the mobile phone because she found creepy witchcraft-related searches in her browser history.

After she got her phone taken away from her, the girl reportedly threw a tantrum and set the living room sofa on fire while her oblivious grandparents were resting in their bedroom.

She told them she would be going to the playground and stormed down the stairs, locking their room from the outside after she set the piece of furniture alight.

Local media revealed that the fire had spread at a rapid pace.

When the grandparents woke up to the thick smoke, they realised they were trapped inside the room with no way out.

Fire Department and Mobile Emergency Attendance Service crews rushed to the site after being alerted.

The grandmother was reportedly taken to the Antonio Dias Regional Hospital after she suffered severe leg and chest pain due to smoke poisoning.

Meanwhile, the grandfather's state remains stable.

The girl is currently in her mum's care, but it was not disclosed where she was at the time the fire broke out.

The child had frequent mood swings, local reports claimed.

The Civil Police are currently investigating the case.

It comes after a schoolboy, 12, was set on fire by two older lads who had asked him if he wanted to see a magic trick last year.

The young boy suffered serious injuries in the assault and cops appealed for witnesses to come forward.

A 15-year-old boy was accused of intentionally setting a house on fire that killed his 10-year-old sister on Easter Sunday last year.

Investigators determined the fire to be arson and intentional in nature and arrested the boy, who was charged with malice murder, felony murder, and arson.

And a nine-year-old boy was also charged with burning to death five relatives including three kids in a horror house fire in 2019.

The child faced five counts of first-degree murder for allegedly starting the blaze on April 6 at the Timberline Mobile Home Park near Goodfield, about 150 miles southwest of Chicago.
