Carragher reiterates VAR stance after controversial Liverpool call vs Toulouse

Jamie Carragher has called for VAR to be scrapped for the second time in 24 hours following Liverpool's controversial disallowed goal against Toulouse.

The Reds thought they'd dramatically rescued a 3-3 draw when young defender Jarell Quansah hit the back of the net in the eighth minute of injury time. Replays showed that Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister had used his arm to control the ball in the build-up, forcing the officials to rule out Quansah's first professional goal and condemn Jurgen Klopp's side to a 3-2 loss.

Carragher had already urged football chiefs to "get rid of VAR" following a 'disgraceful' decision which went Manchester United's way in the Champions League on Wednesday - although he was adamant that United star Marcus Rashford shouldn't have been shown a red card. After Liverpool's late heartbreak on Thursday, the ex-Reds defender reposted his tweet to reiterate his point.

"The game has gone!" Carragher originally posted after United's opponents, Copenhagen, conceded a penalty for what was controversially deemed a handball. "Get rid of VAR, that's a disgrace," the Sky Sports and CBS pundit concluded.

Carragher also reposted another user's tweet which read: "European officiating is actually worse than the Premier League's, never thought I'd see the day."

The 38-time-capped England international then confirmed that he'd soon be giving his more detailed thoughts on VAR. "Column on VAR tomorrow which was done before the LFC game!" he wrote.

Ex-Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole disagreed with Carragher, though, arguing on TNT Sports : "I think it was a handball. It was a strange situation because we were all wondering what was going to be the decision given the handball happened quite a while before the goal went in, but the ref got it right. Much to the dismay and frustration of Liverpool fans and players, it was the right call."

Former England goalkeeper Rachel Brown-Finnis added: "The game was a slow burner but it did catch fire in the end didn't it? A great finish by Quansah who thought he had equalised but I think it was rightly ruled out in the end. He showed real determination to get his side back in the game, like I said a good finish from the defender, but it is a handball."
