In the clip, creator Asia Mae said she "thought everybody knew" how the tab under a car's rearview mirror was supposed to function

"Apparently it's not common knowledge," she began.

"So in your rearview mirror, you have this little tab underneath, right?

"And it's always like supposed to be pointed back and then that's what you view."

Asia went on to demonstrate how a fence behind her car changes appearance at night when the tab is moved.

"When you flip this tab up...it only shows you the reflections of what's behind you and that's supposed to be like night vision when you're driving," she said.

"(This is) so that the headlight aren't blinding you.

"Did you guys know that?"

Some viewers said they were perplexed that the tab could help offset the glare of other drivers' headlights.

"Wow, never knew that," one person wrote.

"I'm only using it to hold my dangling airfreshener."

Another added: "Why am I just now learning this."

However, others said they were already aware of the tab's intended use.

"Yeah it's mainly if someone has their brights on," one wrote.

"It's amazing watching Gen Z learn common sense."

The hack comes after some drivers learned of a another trick that experts claim can be key to defrosting a car's windscreen.

Meanwhile, one of the UK's largest energy firms has launched its ‘cheapest energy deal ever’ specifically for EV drivers that could save customers £100s on charging.

This comes after drivers have been rushing out to buy 40p B&M essential to keep their car toasty warm without turning on the engine.
