As the undisputed Queen of Pop, Madonna is used to a royal level of luxury.
So when she jetted into Lisbon, Portugal, for the latest leg of her Celebration Tour, she insisted on staying in a restored 19th century palace. Our sources say Madge booked the largest suite in the Pestana Palace Lisboa, which costs £1,840 a night.
The Royal Suite D Carlos, which has a “palatial decor”, measures 52 square metres and boasts a bedroom, living room, dining room and huge terrace overlooking the Tagus River and the grand gardens. Two smaller royal suites, the Suite D Manuel/D Luis Felipe and the Suite D Amelia, were also booked for members of the Material Girl’s team.
Madonna's suite at the plush palace (Free Picture)Built in 1904, the hotel was previously the Palacio Vale Flor, home to the 1st Marquis Vale Flor and his three daughters. Now a national monument, it was taken over by the Pestana Group in 1992 and restored to its former glory.
A tour source said: “Madonna flew into Lisbon last Friday by private jet and stayed at the Pestana Palace, in the Royal Suite D Carlos until Wednesday. She loves the Palace and made it clear it was her first choice. Her personal photographer and team were also staying with her, so they rented out all of the most prestigious suites in the hotel during Madonna’s stay.

“As Madonna has lived in Lisbon in the past, she knows the city and usually makes a point of going out and enjoying some of her favourite night-spots when she flies in for a holiday. But this time she holed up in the Palace rather than going out partying, which is not surprising when you consider the tour performances she still has ahead in Europe and the US.”
Madonna, who performed at the Lisbon Arena on Monday and Tuesday, left the city on Wednesday, arriving late for the private jet that was to whisk her to Paris ahead of her concert at the Accor Arena tonight. While in the City of Light, she is understood to be staying at the opulent five-star Hotel Costes. I mean, it’s not a palace but we suppose it’ll have to do.
