The perfect full English breakfast should consist of two full size-sausages, two hash browns, two rashers of bacon – or “facon” – and one egg, according to food lovers.
Eight in ten Brits (79%) love to tuck into the traditional morning meal, with the same number saying that egg is the most important ingredient on their breakfast plate – preferably fried.
This was followed by sausages (77%) and bacon (72%), while over half will opt for hash browns (53%) and mushrooms (55%), and 39% enjoy white toast with their meal.
However, one in five don't enjoy when “soggy” elements of the meal seep onto other foods on the plate – with baked beans (60%) and egg yolk (63%) the worst culprits for this.
And a fifth, of the 2,076 adults polled, feel so strongly about this, that they have come up with their own methods to prevent it – such as using sausages as a physical barrier, or even avoiding “wet” food components altogether.

To solve the problem, hotel chain Premier Inn has created a concept plate, featuring a built-in, crescent-shaped “bean barrier”, which has been unveiled just in time for English Breakfast Day tomorrow [December 2].
The favourite full English breakfast ingredients are eggs, sausages, and bacon (SWNS)Ollie Bloomfield, who heads up breakfast at Premier Inn’s largest hotel in the UK, said: “For many, breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and a moment to savour.
“We don’t need an excuse to make it a full English breakfast. But, as the results show, consumers have clear opinions on what it should contain, and how it should be laid out on the plate.
“And while the English Breakfast is a staple, for some, the experience can be spoiled by simply having the beans touch the bacon – and nobody wants that.”
The study, conducted via OnePoll, also found 33% of those polled plan to have a full English breakfast on English Breakfast Day. It emerged that ketchup (38%) is the most favoured condiment accompaniment, while a cup of tea (45%) is the beverage of choice.
And eating a full English is a ritual for Brits, with almost a third (32%) eating a favourite breakfast item slowly, and a fifth (20%) saving that particular ingredient until last.
Ollie Bloomfield, for Premier Inn, said: “Although only a concept at this stage, we believe our plate concept could be the solution for perfect flavour combinations. We serve over 22 million all-you-can eat breakfasts a year, and we’re convinced the bean barrier plate is something guests would enjoy.”
