Conor McGregor has said that he would “love” Dillon Danis to stay in UFC despite appearing to announce his retirement.
The American MMA star was last in action during his boxing bout with Logan Paul in Manchester. Danis was disqualified in the final round of the fight when he attempted to take Paul down with a guillotine move.
The attempt saw the fight descend into chaos and it now appears the scenes are the final time that supporters will be seeing the 30-year-old in the ring or octagon. Taking to Twitter, he wrote: “I'm done with fighting. I'm retired. Love you all.”
His comment came after he threatened retirement should he be knocked out by Paul’s brother Jake. McGregor, who is working his way towards a UFC comeback, has already given his view on Danis’ decision.
During a Q&A session on Twitter, the Irishman was asked: “How do you think Dillon does in the UFC and will he be training with you?”

He replied: “I’d love to see it! I hope he dials in and stays the course! I know he will!” Whether Danis sticks to McGregor’s prediction remains to be seen.

It is not the first time that the Notorious has commented on Danis’ fighting abilities. McGregor hailed the American for his display against Paul last month but did admit that he needed to throw more punches to force himself into contention.
McGregor said: "What a spectacle, ya’s’r welcome. Are yous not entertained? I was impressed [by Danis], good shots. He needed to let them shots go, some of them ones he was throwing was alright.
"He just needed to let them go a little bit more What did your man [Paul] do anyway? You didn't even wobble him, you didn't even hurt him. You done nothing lads, yup the crew! I tell you what, it was better than what Nate Diaz done anyway yeah? That was a show, yup yup."
Despite McGregor seemingly being a big fan of Danis, he actually ended up injuring the Brazilian jiu-jitsu star during a sparring session. Asked how he picked up a ‘lazy eye’ by former UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley, he revealed that McGregor was the culprit.
Danis said: "Fun fact: In the lead-up to UFC 229, while doing hard sparring sessions with Conor for the Khabib fight, I broke my zygomatic arch and orbital bone, so I think I'm just stuck like this.”
Away from Danis’ decision to retire, McGregor is still waiting to make his anticipated return to UFC. That could come at UFC 300 according to the fighter himself, despite head coach John Kavanagh claiming he would not be seen again until at least next summer.
