When auditioning for his iconic role on Home Improvement, the casting directors did not only think it "went well" but "thought that he looked a lot like his TV dad-to-be, Tim Allen," according to IMDb.

Jonathan hasn't been seen much since stepping out the spotlight, and the last time fans caught a glimpse of his post-fame life was back in 2021. He was seen walking two furry friends in Los Angeles. He was wearing jeans, a zip up hoodie, a New York Mets cap and sunglasses. Talk about being lowkey. According to People, that was his first time being photographed in public in nearly eight years.

Thomas told PEOPLE that he "never took the fame too seriously" and did not regret leaving the industry. He said: "I'd been going non-stop since I was 8 years old. I wanted to go to school, to travel and have a bit of a break, to sit in a big library amongst books and students, that was pretty cool. It was a novel experience for me." He added: "It was a great period in my life. It doesn't define me."

When Jonathan was seven-years-old, he worked as a model for print advertisements in Sacramento and appeared in TV commercials like Kellogs cereal and Mattel toys. He graduated from Chaminade College Preparatory School in Missouri in 2000 and studied philosophy and history at Harvard University in Massachusetts. He then went off to Columbia University of General Studies in New York City in 2010.
