ARSENAL fans believe Emiliano Martinez is "still a Gooner" following his clean sheet against Manchester City.

Aston Villa clinched a 1-0 win over Pep Guardiola's side after dominating the match on Wednesday.

Martinez, who won the Yashin Trophy at the Ballon d'Or ceremony last month, put on a stellar display to keep the treble winners at bay.

But his stand-out moment came in the 11th minute when he pulled off an outstanding double save.

After Phil Foden split the Villa defence with a clever pass through to Erling Haaland, the goalkeeper managed to stop the striker's close-range shot before parrying the ball away.

However, Bernardo Silva latched onto the rebound and crossed the ball back to Haaland in the six-yard box.

With the striker looking almost certain to score, Martinez got back across his line to make a second save.

Aston Villa went on to win the match 1-0 thanks to Leon Bailey's second-half strike.

The victory took Unai Emery's side above Man City in the Premier League table, much to the pleasure of title challengers Arsenal.

Arsenal fans took to X to react, with one person writing:"Martinez probably still a Gooner. What a brilliant double save!"

Another added: "Arsenal through and through."

A third fan wrote: "Emi Martinez was our legacy keeper, he would be on 300 apps for us now, how much have we wasted on Leno, Ramsdale, Raya since."

While a fourth added: "This Aston Villa game is making me realise Martinez is better than Ramsdale and Raya."
