A pilot who was about to fly a plane to Paris has been detained following an arrest warrant.
Jeremy Gudorf, 33, had been due to fly a JetBlue plane when a routine check of people onboard led to his detention. It is unclear of the charges against Gudorf, from Ohio, who was arrested onboard the plane at Boston Logan International Airport at around 8.40pm on Thursday.
The warrant for his arrest came from North Carolina and Massachusetts State Police responded to a request to detain Gudorf from US Customs and Border Protection. US State Police have confirmed the arrest took place and that the pilot has been held in custody before his appearance at East Boston District Court on Friday.
"In conducting their standard review of the manifest of a Boston-to-Paris flight, CBP identified an active North Carolina warrant lodged against a member of the flight crew who was detained," State Police said in a statement, reported CBS News.
A lawyer representing Gudorf told the court that Gudorf is an Ohio resident with connections to Massachusetts and his defence asked for him to be released. At the same time the prosecution argued for him to be held without bail while the hearing did not go into details of the case against Gudorf.
"He is a commercial pilot, the warrant is obviously out of North Carolina and he resides in the state of Ohio so for those reasons we ask that he be held without bail and surrender his passport," a prosecutor reportedly said.
The judge made the decision to allow Gudorf to keep his passport and he was given $10,000 bail under the condition that he report to North Carolina by February 25. The state of Massachusetts also reportedly charged Gudorf with a count of being a fugitive from justice without a warrant.
However, if North Carolina decides to waive the warrant, Gudorf will not be required to return to Massachusetts for a status hearing on the fugitive charge. If the warrant is not waived, he will need to be back in Boston on March 19.
