A GUNMAN who shot dead a nine-year-old girl has been refused permission to challenge his 42-year jail term.
Thomas Cashman, 35, was given life for murdering Olivia Pratt-Korbel as she got ready for bed at home.
Yesterday, three Court of Appeal judges dismissed his second challenge to his sentence.
Judge Dame Sharp said: “The length of the sentence reflects the terribleness of his crimes rather than any error on the part of the judge.
“There were no mitigating factors, no remorse.”

Olivia’s mother Cheryl Korbel said: “That news meant everything to us as a family. It was huge.”
Olivia was caught in the crossfire of a gang war when Cashman attempted to murder a fleeing rival in Liverpool on August 22 last year.
A bullet fired through the front door at intended target Joseph Nee missed and passed through Olivia's mum Cheryl's hand before hitting her daughter in the middle of her chest.
Cashman denied murder, attempted murder, wounding Cheryl and two firearms offences.
He was convicted on all charges following a three-week trial and sparked fury when he refused to appear in the dock for sentencing.
In May, Solicitor General Michael Tomlinson KC said Cashman would not have his jail term increased after a number of requests were made for his prison time to be lengthened via the unduly lenient scheme.
His lawyer said he was now planning an appeal against his conviction.
