Nestle broke hearts when they confessed their beloved Caramac bars are set to be stripped off the shelves. Now one man has made it his mission to save them - and he won't give up without a fight.
Former Lord Mayor and Deputy Lord Mayor of Liverpool Gary Millar has started a petition to bring the much-loved treat back, and it's already got over 29,000 signatures.
He believes the legacy is worth saving, describing the decision as a 'significant loss' to British cuisine. Gary sent a message to fellow lovers of the chocolate bar to back him and penned: "We cannot let this piece of confectionery history fade away without a fight."

Gary went on to brand the 'iconic' brand's removal from shelves as a "significant loss not only for those who enjoy Caramac bars but also for our shared cultural heritage."
Describing his love for the delicious chocolate bar, he told the Metro: "I inherited my sweet tooth from my paternal grandad, who started me off on Scottish Tablet and later introduced me to Caramac deliciousness as I preferred it to chocolate.

"We also used to laugh as the advertising tagline was 'Silence is Golden' and my family suggested I should try it sometime – I was a chatterbox." His petition comes just a week after the company axed the product citing 'relatively low sales' as the reason behind their decision.
Nestle's statement read: "We are very sorry to disappoint fans of Caramac. There has been a steady decline in its sales over the past few years and unfortunately we had to make the difficult decision to discontinue it."
"We know fans will be disappointed to see it go, but this change will enable us to focus on our best-performing brands, as well as develop exciting new innovations to delight consumers' tastebuds."
Fans were quick to share their disappointment. "Nooooo, my favourite bar!" one person lamented. A second suggested, "Let's get a petition going!" and a third said: "End of an era."
Caramac was originally created by Mackintosh's and launched in 1959. Sadly, Caramac wasn't the only chocolate bar that has been discontinued - as Nestle has also made the decision to axe their beloved Animal bar. You can sign the petition to bring Caramac back here.
