I'm A Celebrity star Danielle Harold almost quit the show after she had to be treated by doctors.

The former EastEnders star, 31, is said to have lost nearly a stone after getting an infection in camp. She feared she may have had to quit the ITV show if she needed to go to hospital. Viewers were left unaware of Danielle's health struggles as it was not shown on screen.

The actress is believed to have told her friends and family about the health scare when she became the fifth celebrity to be evicted. Danielle, who is 5ft 3in, is said to have told her friend she felt "wiped out" but was "determined" to stay on the show for as long as she could.

A source told The Sun: “She was really sick but you’d never have known it. She kept smiling and kept trying her best in camp. She didn’t want to have to leave the show to go to hospital." They added that she was closely monitored by the medics on set, but after being unwell for a few days she lost almost a stone in weight.

After leaving the camp on Thursday night, Danielle told The Mirror: "I was a little bit nervous about going in. It was the first thing I’ve done as myself after becoming an actress. I was like I’m going to be around big characters and I felt that new kid at school kind of feeling. So for me it was just such a great experience to enjoy something as me and not have to think like someone else.

"I came out of my shell and I think that's massively down to everyone in there. It's just like you don't know anybody so you feel a little bit nervous. And feel pretty alone when you're going in and that goes so fast because you just bond on a different level and super, super quick."

Viewers were stunned to find out the actress had been voted out, given she was tipped to make the final from the start of the series – while controversial campmate Nigel Farage had somehow survived yet another vote-off. Speaking to Ant and Dec after leaving, admitted it was the greatest thing she had ever done.

She said: "You forget you are on TV and just think you are camping with your mates. My Josie, I am rooting for her so much. She is so much stronger than she thinks she is. She is missing that little one so much but she has got this I know she has." Viewers have previously seen the 38 year old mum of one struggle to cope without her son, Reggie, which sparked concern that she may quit as she berated herself for leaving him for so long.

On leaving the camp and saying goodbye to the remaining celebrities, Danielle told Josie: "I've got your little one, okay, I promise you." Josie shouted out to her: "Tell him I love him, tell him I'll be out soon!" Danielle then told Ant and Dec: "[Josie's] just missing her little one so much, but I said I'm going to give him a kiss and a squeeze."
