DETAILS on Ford's new and most powerful car ever have been revealed along with its eye-watering price tag.
The Ford Mustang GTD is set for release in limited numbers from late next year and was on display at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
It's understood a small number will be allocated to the UK but no figures have been confirmed yet.
However, motor enthusiasts hoping to get their hands on the supercar will have to splash out a giant £234,000.
The new Mustang was thought up by engineers at Ford's Michigan headquarters to take on the "best of European sports cars".
Chief executive at Ford Jim Farley said the GTD marks a new direction for the car brand.
“[The] Mustang GTD shatters every preconceived notion of a supercar," he said.
"This is a new approach for us. We didn’t engineer a road car for the track, we created a race car for the road."
The GTD has a targeted output of more than 800bhp, beating Ford's own £1.4 million, track-only Ford GT MK IV that was revealed last year.
Mr Farley went on to say Ford is challenging other major car brands to follow its lead.
“This is our company. We’re throwing down the gauntlet and saying ‘come and get it’," he said.
"We’re comfortable putting everybody else on notice. I’ll take track time in a Mustang GTD against any other auto boss in their best road car."
Among the GTD's range of deluxe features are a 5.2-litre engine, dual air inlets and a titanium active-valve exhaust system.
Inside the motor appears to be closer to a standard Mustang than a typical race car. with its backseats removed to reduce weight.
The new release comes after social media stars drove a £43,000 Ford Mustang EV 1,000 miles to find it added hours to their journey.
Meanwhile, Ford made the decision to slash the Mach-E's price by a huge sum in a bid to boost sales.
