The star, who turns 50 next year, is currently starring in the new NBC series Found.

In the gritty series he plays a kidnapper called Sir who is being held captive by a woman he abducted when she was a child.

Famous for his flopping blonde hair and all american good looks, for this sinister role Mark-Paul took on a completely new look.

In a new interview with ComicBook, the 90s star described Sir as a "disgusting, grotesque...a really despicable character".

However, when asked whether its the darkest character he's ever played, he shocked fans with his reply, by saying: "I think it belongs to Zack Morris."

Mark-Paul added: "I think I was bred to play roles like Sir just because I started my career playing one of the most nefarious characters on television."

Saved By The Bell, which ran for 86 episodes, was a huge hit around the world, being shown in the mornings during UK school holidays in the 90s and gaining a huge following.

First airing in 1989 it featured Mark-Paul as Zack, Mario Lopez as AC Slater and Dustin Diamond as Screech Powers.

The trio were matched by three girls - Tiffani Thiessen as Kelly Kapowski, Elizabeth Berkley as Jessie Spano and Lark Voorhies' Lisa Turtle.

Mark-Paul told People that during his time on the show he dated all three of his female co-stars at different times.

In 1996 he married model and actress Lisa Ann Russell, who had appeared in an episode of Saved by the Bell: The College Years three years earlier.

They had children Michael, 19, and Ava, 16, but split in 2010. He later married Catriona McGinn and had another two children - son Dekker, nine, and daughter Lachlyn, eight.

Mark-Paul reprised the role of Zack in the 2020 reboot of Saved By The Bell, revealing that Zack had risen to become Governor of California.
