Driving at night can be unnerving for some, especially when you're stopped at traffic lights and there seems to be barely any other motorists on the road - but one man has shared a key hack that could keep you safe.

As the dark nights draw in even faster as winter truly takes hold, even driving around after you've finished work at 5pm can feel like the middle of the night.

To help mitigate any fear you may have about driving alone at night, one car expert has shared a handy safety feature that will make you feel more comfortable.

TikToker @carknowledge_ shared a "hidden function" of a car key, urging people to set it up. In the short clip, they wrote over the top: "Tips for novice drivers."

They then explained the hack which can keep motorists safe at night. They told people to "press and hold the lock button, and unlock button, at the same time for five seconds."

Then, when you press the unlock button, this will only allow the driver's side door to open, and all the other doors in the car cannot be opened, meaning that nobody can get into the vehicle without your consent - including pesky thieves.

While the method shown in the video works on many cars, drivers are advised to check their vehicle handbook to find a detailed description of their own car to show how this feature can be activated.

The simple trick is really useful for motorists who typically travel alone or at night and use public car parks. In the comments, someone advised: "Hold the unlock button, and all the windows go down." Another wrote: "Or search 'secret menu model' - and find every hidden ability of your car."
