A FORMER Premier League striker has opened the door to joining Wrexham - despite a furious public spat with their Hollywood owners.

Billy Sharp, 37, is currently a free agent following a brief but impressive stint in America’s MLS.

The well-travelled forward was club captain at Sheffield United last season as the Blades secured promotion back to the Premier League.

During that campaign, Sharp and Blades were drawn against Wrexham in the FA Cup fourth round.

Having drawn 3-3 in Wales, United eventually triumphed 3-1 in the replay with the veteran getting on the scoresheet.

But he hit the headlines after the game when he said Wrexham had been “disrespectful” in the build-up to the game and appeared to be “thinking they were already through”.

That led to the now League Two side’s movie actor owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney hitting back and claiming to be “living rent free in that motherf***ers brain”.

After securing second place in the Championship, despite wanting to stay and him claiming to be told his deal would be extended, Sharp was released back in the summer.

He joined LA Galaxy on a two-month deal in August and scored six times in 12 appearances before finding himself unemployed again.

However, despite the past remarks between himself and Reynolds and McElhenney, Sharp says he would consider a transfer to Wrexham if they got in touch.

Speaking on William Hill's 'No Tippy Tappy Football' podcast, he said: “Wrexham are doing really well, fair play to them. I don't hold grudges.

“If that were one of my better options, why not.”

While he is searching for a new employer, Wrexham continue to fly high in the fourth tier following last season’s promotion.

They are currently second in League Two after Phil Parkinson’s men hammered Morecambe 6-0 on Saturday.
