MARY EARPS is almost certain to win tonight's 2023 BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.

That's according to bookmakers Betfair, who've installed the England and Manchester United goalkeeper as the odds-on frontrunner.

SPOTY is celebrating its 70th anniversary in Salford this evening, and Earps is available at 1/12 to clinch the grand prize.

It's been a productive year for Earps for both club and country. The 30-year-old won this year’s Golden Glove award for the best goalkeeper at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Earps was influential in helping England reach the final, registering three clean sheets and conceded just four goals in the entire competition.

She also saved a penalty in the final despite the Lionesses' 1-0 defeat to Spain in Sydney.

Earps was named England Women's Player of the Year for the 2022–23 season, and subsequently drew plaudits when getting Nike to reverse their decision not to manufacture a replica jersey with her name on it.

Retired England cricketer Stuart Broad is next at 10/1.

Broad ended his glittering career when bowling England to a dramatic victory in the fifth Ashes Test against Australia earlier this year.

He finished his career having taken 602 wickets in 167 Tests, making him the second most successful paceman in Test history behind team-mate James Anderson.

Frankie Dettori is available at 25/1.

The jockey bid farewell to UK racing this year, and ended his final season on British soil by claiming two Classics in the 2000 Guineas on Chaldean and the Oaks on Soul Sister.

The world famous jockey also won the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot, and on his last-ever ride on King Of Steel in the Champion Stakes.

Katarina Johnson-Thompson is priced at 18/1.

KJT stormed to her second heptathlon World Championship title in Budapest earlier this year. The achievement was all the more impressive given her Achilles tear, which threatened her future in the sport.

Rory McIlroy is a firm outsider at 100/1 following his heroic performance at the Ryder Cup.

The Northern Irishman finished as the top points scorer on either side with four out of five matches won. He also won the Scottish Open and retained his Race to Dubai title for the fifth time.

Alfie Hewett is offered at 25/1.

Hewett won a colossal seven singles tournaments in 2023, including the Australian and US Opens -- finishing the year as world number one for the first time.
