THOUSANDS on benefits may see their payment dates change due to the late May bank holiday.
Those on Universal Credit, Pension Credit and more could see the money land in their account earlier than usual.

But it can leave you caught unaware if you don't know about the rule. Here we explain what you need to know.
When will I get my payment?
The Government has confirmed that benefit payments due to land in accounts on the May bank holiday are being made early instead.

Anyone due a payment on Monday, May 27 will instead receive it on Friday, May 24.
If your usual benefit payment date falls outside of a bank holiday, nothing will change.
If you are expecting a payment before the bank holiday and don't get it, contact the Department for Work and Pensions.
Does a bank holiday only affect those on Universal Credit?
The change can impact individuals claiming any number of benefits, including Universal Credit.

Will my payment amount change?
The only thing that changes is when you get paid.
Your benefit amount won't change if it is paid early, unless there's been a change in circumstances which impacts how much you are due.
Of course, the amount you get depends on which benefits you are currently claiming.

Make sure to factor this into your budget for May and June.
Will other benefit payment dates change?
There are three more bank holidays before the end of this year which could impact when you receive your benefits.
Here's when the DWP or HMRC will make your payments if you're expecting them on a public holiday:
- August 26 - payments will be made on August 23 instead
- December 25 and 26 - payments will be made on December 24 instead
