Ex- PSG and Argentina forward Ezequiel Lavezzi has been hospitalised after an incident at a family party amid reports that he was 'stabbed'.
Reports from South American outlet Clarin claim that the now 38-year-old suffered “a short puncture wound in his abdomen and a fracture at the level of his collarbone”. Local claims in the Uruguayan city of Punta del Este say that he suffered an alleged stabbing after an argument with family members over money.
Further reports from El Observador claim that police arrived at the scene to investigate but have now confirmed that he suffered an injury to his shoulder. However, confusion has grown further with his family claiming that Lavezzi instead fell while attempting to change a lightbulb.
It is further reported by TYC Sports that the former Paris Saint-Germain star fell from a ladder and hit a piece of furniture. A medical report is pending to give further insight into his condition.
The incident is said to have taken place early on Tuesday morning. Further reports have claimed emergency services received a distress call at 5am, with Lavezzi consequently being transported to hospital alongside his girlfriend.
Lionel Messi posts emotional message after 'year I will never forget'The latest confusing chapter is one of many incidents involving Lavezzi since his retirement. The former winger started his career with Estudiantes before having spells at San Lorenzo and Napoli, where he won the Coppa Italia.
He then moved to French giants PSG in 2012 and won three Ligue 1 titles, the Coupe de France and the Coupe de La Ligue. Lavezzi moved to Chinese Super League side Hebei China Fortune in 2016, where he decided to retire.
"They were amazing years of this story," Lavezzi said at the time. "Years marked by learning, unique moments and lots of memories that will stay in my heart for good.
"I am forever grateful for those who have stayed by my side throughout this journey. With lots of joy, I say goodbye to the most amazing phase life has given me. I've been extremely happy!"
Away from his club career, Lavezzi also made 51 appearances for the Argentinian national team over a nine-year period - scoring nine goals. He played for the South American side at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and set up a goal for Gonzalo Higuain - the strike correctly being ruled out for offside.
Lavezzi also won a gold medal with Argentina at the 2008 Olympics and scored twice. He made his final appearance for his nation in 2016 ahead of retiring from international duty.
