When is The Muppet Christmas Carol on TV this year?

Sadly, the Muppet Christmas Carol movie is not scheduled for TV over Christmas 2023.

The festive favourite - which was released in 1993 - gives the Muppets' take on the famous Charles Dickens classic.

Characters include Kermit The Frog as Bob Cratchit, and Miss Piggy playing his wife.

Who is in the cast of The Muppet Christmas Carol?

Michael Caine

Michael Caine plays the lead character Ebenezer Scrooge.

Since playing Scrooge in The Muppet Christmas Carol, he’s been in everything from Austin Powers and Miss Congeniality to Inception and The Dark Knight.

The famous British actor is probably best known for the phrase ,“You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!" in the iconic film The Italian Job.

Steven Mackintosh

Steven Mackintosh played Scrooge’s nephew Fred.

He went on to play Richard Garland in The Halcyon.

The actor has also had roles in Kick-Ass 2, The Sweeney, Luther and Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels.

Ray Coulthard

Ray Coulthard played a young Ebenezer Scrooge in The Muppet Christmas Carol.

He has since gone on to star in lots of TV shows like Hotel Babylon, and Emma.

Fans may also recognise him from playing Alasdair Sinclair in Emmerdale. 

Robin Weaver

Robin Weaver was Clara in the puppet caper.

Most famously, she went on to play Simon’s mum Pamela Cooper in The Inbetweeners.

Robin also starred in The Catherine Tate Show and Black Mirror.

Meredith Braun

Meredith Braun was just 19-years old when she was Belle in The Muppet Christmas Carol.

The actress is now a West End star, and has enjoyed an incredible career.

She is famed for playing the lead role of Christine in The Phantom Of The Opera.

Frank Oz

Frank Oz played multiple Muppet characters, including Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear and Animal.

He was also a big part of Sesame Street - another of Jim Henson’s creations.

On the hit kids show he played the Cookie Monster, Bert and Grover.

Steve Whitmire

The voice of the mum-loved Kermit the Frog was played by Steve Whitmire.

In 2017, he was sacked by Muppet bosses after playing the green character for 27 years.

At the time, the puppeteer said he was heartbroken, and felt like he had “failed” his mentor Jim Henson, who originated Kermit.

Dave Goelz

Dave Goelz played many different roles in The Muppet Christmas Carol.

This included Gonzo the Great, Dr Bunsen Honeydew, Waldorf - following Henson’s death - and Zoot.

Dave has actually now played Gonzo for almost 50 years, having created the character when he joined the Jim Henson Company in 1976.

Jerry Nelson

Jerry Nelson took on the role of the Ghost of Christmas Present in the Muppet Christmas Carol.

However, he was more well-known as the full-time voice of Count von Count from Sesame Street.

On August 23, 2012, he sadly died from complications of his illness, at the age of 78. 

David Rudman

David Rudman also played multiple characters.

He was responsible for Rat, Peter Cratchit, Old Joe and Swedish Chef in the film.

When Frank Oz left his role as the Cookie Monster in 2004, it was David who took over.
