YOUR top secret conversations can now turn totally invisible with WhatsApp's latest big privacy shake-up.

The popular messaging app has introduced a brand new tool that hides chats you don't want anyone to know about under lock and key.

The privacy boost goes a step further than existing passwords that can be used to restrict access to your WhatsApp account.

It builds on the existing Chat Lock which already allows people to put a password on specific conversations.

But now you can avoid arguments or suspicion by acting like such sensitive texts don't even exist.

Secret Code lets you make selected chats disappear entirely from the list on WhatsApp, so you and no-one else can see them.

The only way they are revealed is by entering your very own code.

Better still, the code is completely different from the one you use to unlock your phone - so anyone who knows your iPhone or Android device PIN can't go snooping either.

Once you've set up your secret code there's no special area to enter it.

You have to type it into the top search bar, only then will the conversations you wish to keep private suddenly become visible again.

How to hide chats on WhatsApp

If you want to hide a chat with WhatsApp's new Secret Code feature on Chat Lock, you'll need to ensure your app is up to date first.

So be sure to go to the App Store or Google Play Store, check the WhatsApp page and see if an update is available or not.

As the feature is rolling out, it may not be immediately available to you, so you'll need to be a little patient.

Once it is available, all you need to do is long press on a chat you wish to lock, rather than visiting the chat’s settings.
