ACTOR Pierce Brosnan has been hit with two charges after allegedly hiking into off-limits parts of Yellowstone National Park.

The James Bond and Mamma Mia! star was cited by U.S. District Court on Tuesday for entering a thermal area at Mammoth Terraces, according to court documents viewed by The U.S. Sun.

Brosnan was charged with "foot travel in a thermal area" and a "closure violation" after allegedly entering a restricted area of the park on November 1.

Weeks prior, Brosnan, 70, was filming Unholy Trinity with Samuel L. Jackson in the area, Livingston Enterprise reported.

He hasn't yet entered a plea and the court docket labels the two charges as a "petty offense."

The actor, who has proclaimed himself to be an "environmentalist" on social media, has been ordered to appear in court in Wyoming on January 23, 2024.

While many visitors may be tempted to venture off designated paths at Yellowstone National Park, the consequences can be serious.

If found guilty, a visitor could be sent to jail for up to six months and face a fine of up to $5,000, according to the Daily Mail.

A Connecticut woman was reportedly held in jail for seven days and fined $2,000 for veering off the designated path to walk toward the thermal area.

She was also banned from the national park for two years.

Exploring closed off areas can also lead to dangerous ramifications.

Since the 1800s, at least 20 people have died in thermal areas in Yellowstone National Park, according to NBC News.

As recently as November 2022, the foot of a dead man from Los Angeles was found floating in one of the park's hot springs.

As no one witnessed what happened, park officials told NBC News that it remains unclear how he died.

The park encourages visitors on its website to stay safe by following the designated boardwalks and trails.
