A YOUNG rugby player tragically died on Christmas Eve having suffered a “devastating head injury” following a fall.

Rory Cramb was a first team player for Tynedale Rugby Club who had been in intensive care in hospital before dying just before Christmas.

A heartfelt statement from the Northumberland club said: “We are extremely saddened to announce the tragic death of Rory Cramb, a much-loved player, member, and friend of the Tynedale Rugby Club family.

“Following a fall Rory suffered a devastating head injury and after several days in hospital under intensive care he sadly passed away on Christmas Eve.

“A very popular young man, Rory developed as a talented centre through the Junior section at Tynedale and frequently represented the club at both 1st XV and Raiders level.

“His last game was in the 1st XV against Billingham on December 16 where he was prominent in a fine win.

“Our hearts, minds and prayers go out to Suzy, Richard and all of Rory’s family and friends whose worlds have been turned upside down by their loss.”

The announcement was also posted on the club’s X, formerly Twitter, page which has received numerous tributes to the inside centre from both other clubs and individuals.

One said: “@otleyrugbyclub sends our deepest sympathies and thoughts of condolences to Rory’s family, his friends and the club.

“Rory played against us in our final game of the 2022-23 season. So sorry to hear of your loss.”

Another wrote: “Our thoughts are with all his friends, family and all at Tynedale. A very talented player.”

While a third posted: “Terribly sad news, deepest condolences to Rory’s family.”
