The character was born during the Boxing Day episode of the ITV soap in 1990.

The character almost died when his mum Gail married serial killer Richard Hillman.
In an iconic 2003 scene, Hillman tried to kill himself, Gail, David, David's sister Sarah and her daughter Bethany by driving them into the local canal.
Years later, in 2007, David was thrown out of his family's home after his niece Bethany ingested an ecstasy tablet he had hidden in one of her dolls.
