MaxiSaver owners shut their branch on Nottingham Road leaving a note behind thanking loyal customers.

Shoppers spotted the shutters pulled down for good at the former store on December 31.

The note said: "This store is now permanently closed. We would like to thank all our customers."

The notice directed former customers to find their nearest store or shop online using the chain's website.

On its website, MaxiSaver describes itself as a "new name in convenience shopping" with "well branded stock at affordable prices".

Products include food and drink, household items, and cleaning products, to pet gear, stationery, and beauty products.

There are also items in the leisure category, and garden supplies, as well as seasonal and health products too.

They on offer are priced to reflect the budget market of the brand, they start from 29p and go up to £59.99.

From Halloween decorations to kid's favourite teddy bears - savvy shoppers raved about the deals at the bargain store.

Poundstretcher was MaxiDeals' closets rival with prices that can range between 15p and £90.

Bosses announced it was opening new branches across the nation in recent years after bringing its first stores to Hinckley and Leicestershire, in August 2020.

The shop expansion was planned to see at least 200 new jobs created, as well as growing the head office team.

Although it had planned to rival Poundstretcher, the chain closed other shops recently.

Eastwood was the remaining bargain retailer's store in Nottinghamshire.

Newark's MaxiSaver shut its doors in February 2022, while the chain's Mansfield store has also closed recently.

Poundstretcher also had financial difficulties noticeably in March 2022 when 17 stores were shut and over 1,000 retail staff were cut.

It was around this time the retailer profits had halved - yet, the company was still pushing for an aggressive expansion.

In July 2020 the store entered a legal arrangement which allowed the business to restructure and continue trading.

At the time, it closed 500 branches and paid around £13million of what it owed.

Poundstretcher currently has over 350 stores, according to its website.
